Welcoming Team
While welcoming visitors and making new members feel comfortable at Epworth is everyone's responsibility, a team will ensure each visitor is welcomed individually and personally. The numbers of visitors to Epworth is up! A personal contact with a current member will help keep visitors coming back. Welcoming visitors is essential to growing Epworth! If you are interested in becoming a part of the welcoming team please speak with Susan Mattison at smattison@basicisp.net for further information.
Shelter Meals
Epworth United Methodist Church provides a Sunday Supper for the 65 men in the Warming Center. Members and friends of the church are asked to:
Sign up (a family or group of friends) to feed the 65 men an evening supper. Three ways of doing this are listed below.
- Provide the food and have the shelter helpers prepare the meal. They most often need protein items and fresh food. REST provides some canned vegetables and pastas. Some of the provided food recently has been:
- canned goods and fresh vegetables for soup
- ingredients for spagetti
- hot dogs or polish sausages and buns
- chicken (we have used donated cash to buy leg quarters by the case when on sale)
- salad, drinks and other additions to a basic dish
- Prepare a supper meal (at home or in the parlors kitchen). This would include purchasing the food, preparing cooked items and taking to the shelter before or after worship or at 9:00 Sunday evening. Some of the menus used have been:
- Hearty soup or stew with bread
- Spagetti with bread or salad
- Macaroni and cheese with cut up hot dogs
- Chili and corn bread
- Provide funds.
